Welcome to the NCW Europe Series: The Definitive NEC forum for the C4ISR community

A new concept for NCW 2011:

The speaker faculty in 2011 consists of a larger number of operators and practitioners than in previous years. The conference is moving from the strategic level vision of NCW to reality of networked operations on the ground. The practicalities of operational issues affecting the practical development and deployment of networked enabled capabilities will be analysed both in terms of operational benefits identified and lessons learned in theatre, along with the effect today’s military realities have on progress in the next five years towards the 2020 vision.

Network enabled operations are, for NATO and its allies, a reality. The question is no longer about lofty aspirations for a fully networked force but about how to maintain network resilience, quality of service and security in an interoperable command and control framework.

Network Centric Warfare Europe 2011 is not a specifically cyber conference and nor is it an event focussed solely on the question of what network centric warfare will become. It starts from the central premise that “we cannot go to war without our network” (– Lt. Col. Fahrenkrug, Director CSAF Strategic Studies Group USAF – Jan. 2011).

NCW Europe 2011 focused on:

  • Network Resilience and Quality of Service (QoS)
  • Operational Information Security
  • And the overarching question of operational interoperability

This year there are two streams: C4ISR and New Frontiers of NCW. If the network is a base, the two most critical activities working across it are collecting and disseminating information and communicating it in a timely and consistent manner.

PLUS a Human Factors Focus Day on the 7th June looking at:

  • Current ways to achieve support from the war fighter in network enabled operations
  • Implementing a successful security awareness and behavioural change programme
  • And measuring success in identifying the ‘weakest link’ in network resilience
